Volleyball Returns To The Court For Omaha Classic

first_img vs. Omaha Live Stats vs. Omaha Video vs. UMKC Live Stats Story Linkscenter_img vs. Ball State Live Stats The Drake University volleyball team continues its non-conference season with three games in two days at the Omaha Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 2-3.The Bulldogs open play on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. against Ball State and return to the court on Saturday to face UMKC at 10 a.m. and host, Omaha, at 2 p.m.Drake makes the short trip to Omaha with a 4-1 record in tow after defeating South Dakota State, 3-2, in its home opener on Tuesday evening. Junior Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) led the Bulldogs with a career-high 21 kills in the win on 42 attempts fora .405 percentage. She currently leads the MVC and ranks third nationally in kills this season with 84 on the young season.As a team, the Bulldogs’ offense is one of the top in the nation as the team’s 246 kills are tied for the most in the nation while its 234 assists are also tied for the most in the country. Defensively, team’s 335 digs are the second most in nation. Eighty-seven of those digs have come from senior libero Michelle Thommi (Omaha, Neb.), who ranks fifth in the nation in the category.Drake’s first opponent at the Omaha Classic, Ball State, is 0-4 this season after falling to IUPUI, 3-1, on Wednesday evening. Two of the Cardinals’ first four matches have gone to five sets while opponents have hit .253 against them. UMKC is 2-1 with wins over UTEP and Oral Roberts along with a loss to Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Omaha is 0-3 with a trio of three-set losses this season.Following the Omaha Classic, Drake continues non-conference tournament play at the Eastern Illinois Tournament Sept. 9-10. Print Friendly Versionlast_img
