With star quarterback Jalen Hurts and offensive genius Lincoln Riley on the sidelines, the Sooners offense will be nearly unstoppable.Riley is looking for his third-straight Heisman-winning quarterback and the Sooners have a shot at the College Football Playoff.Riley’s success underscored the exit of Bob Stoops. The longtime head coach made a surprising decision to step away – leaving the Sooners in Riley’s very capable hands. But does Stoops want to return to the sport he ruled for so long? In an interview with Clay Travis on Friday, Stoops was asked about a potential return to college football. Here’s what he had to say, via 247Sports:“Well we’ll see. I believe when I stepped away, if I wanted to continue to coach in college, I would’ve stayed at Oklahoma. I just felt I had run my course there, and, you know, just needed some time and space of my own. And I got that. Right now I’m excited about the adventure going into the XFL. Starting from scratch is really exciting as well. So we’ll see where it leads. I know everybody loves to…they want you to define your life from year to year, and everybody always wants forever and never. And I don’t know how you ever say that. You just never know what the good Lord’s going to bring.”Stoops will have his hands full with the XFL, which launches in just a few months. However, who’s to say when he gets the itch to get back into the college game. We’ll never rule it out.last_img
