Abdellatif Hammouchi Appointed Director of Morocco’s National Security Body

Rabat – King Mohammed VI appointed on Friday in Casablanca Abdellatif Hammouchi new Director of Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security.Abdellatif Hammouchi, head of the Moroccan Internal Intelligence apparatus (DGST), has been appointed the new Director of the General Directorate for National Security (GDNS).Hammouchi has been appointed during a Council of Ministers chaired by King Mohammed VI at the Royal Palace in Casablanca on Friday. Also an adviser to King Mohammed VI on terrorism-related affairs, Hammouchi will replace current director of the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN), Bouchaib Rmail.This is the first in Morocco’s history that the head of the intelligence apparatus is appointed to head the DGSN.Last February, French Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, announced that Abdellatif Hammouchi would receive the French Legion d’Honneur in recognition of his efforts in fighting crime, drug trafficking, as well as terrorism.
