UN mission calls for caution after two men killed near LebanonIsrael border

The two men killed were handed over to Lebanese authorities by Israel through the UN earlier today, a spokesman for the UN, Fred Eckhard, told the daily briefing in New York.The men – who were shot as they crossed the Blue Line from the Lebanese side near the village of Ghajar – were Lebanese civilians who were reportedly carrying hunting guns.Mr. Eckhard said that General Lalit Tewari, Commander of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which has been operating in southern Lebanon since 1978, had expressed his anguish over the shooting incident and urged all parties to “exercise caution and prudence in the charged atmosphere prevailing along the Blue Line.”
