Rugby fan dies after collapsing at Murrayfield

first_imgA RUGBY SUPPORTER died on Saturday after falling ill at Murrayfield during the Six Nations match between Scotland and England, authorities said.The 60-year-old man was watching the Calcutta Cup game in Edinburgh with friends when he collapsed around 15 minutes into the match. He was treated by paramedics and taken from the Murrayfield stadium to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died a short time later.“Inquiries are still ongoing but it is believed there are no suspicious circumstances,” Police Scotland said in a statement.Scottish Rugby Union president Donald MacLeod said: “We are extremely saddened to hear of the death of a supporter who attended today’s Calcutta Cup match.“We extend our deepest sympathy to the gentleman’s family and friends and we are standing by to support in any way we can.”England got their Six Nations campaign back on track with a crushing 20-0 win. The 132nd edition of international rugby union’s oldest fixture saw Scotland rendered pointless by England for the first time since 1978.© AFP, 2014Six Nations: Chariot rolling again after ugly win over dire ScotlandScott Williams leaves Lansdowne Road with shoulder in a sling after BOD tacklelast_img
