MGS The Legacy Collection is simply too big for the Xbox 360

first_imgPlayStation 3 owners and Metal Gear Solid fans are in for a treat later this year when Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection sees a release on PS3. It brings together eight MGS games in one package, and classes as the ultimate collection (to date) for the series. You’d think such a collection would be offered to that other console with millions of owners: the Xbox 360, but that’s just not going to happen. It’s not that Konami and series creator Hideo Kojima don’t want to release the game on Microsoft’s machine, they physically just can’t.The main problem is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It required a Blu-ray to fit all the data on for the PS3 launch, but the Xbox 360 doesn’t have that option and splitting it up across multiple DVDs just isn’t worth the work involved to achieve it. Such a task would also increase the production costs for the 360 version. With the next Xbox expected to ship with a Blu-ray drive, Kojima has said the collection may be viable as a next-gen release. If Microsoft ends up hurting for new content when the console launches, they would probably welcome a collection of that quality to the release schedule. If you do intend to pick up MGS: The Legacy Collection on PS3 later this year, you can expect to find the following games as part of the package:Metal GearMetal Gear 2: Solid SnakeMetal Gear SolidMetal Gear Solid: VR MissionsMetal Gear Solid 2: Sons of LibertyMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the PatriotsMetal Gear Solid: Peace WalkerYou will also find a couple of graphic novels created by Ashley Wood thrown in, so don’t expect this to be a budget release. The expected release date is sometime in June for Japan and not too long after that in the West.last_img
