FNMs first budget presentation Economy worse than PLP said

first_img Related Items: Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppBahamas, May 31st 2017: DPM and Finance Minister Peter Turnquest in his maiden Budget Communication said the economy is bleaker than expected; $400M worse than stated. In making the FNM Government’s first Budget presentation since taking oath two weeks ago, Minister Turnquest says while he cannot justify the actions of his predecessors, coming into office has presented the situation bleaker than they first imagined, and says the former administration left a bare cupboard. The Finance Minister says the Perry Christie Administration misled the people of Bahamas by initially stating debt at $100M, however Minister Turnquest says in actuality it stands at a staggering $500M.The debt is attributed to expenditure incurred post Hurricane Matthew, and to policies implemented in days just before the lead up to the May 10th polls.The situation, Minister Turnquest says, has caused the FNM government to defer its manifesto plans for tax relief measures until a decrease in the country’s fiscal burden.Minister Turnquest says however, some reduction in taxes will be implemented. The Opposition PLP will no doubt challenge this report when it gets a chance to speak during Budget Debate.  Members of the party are already on record accusing the Minnis-led administration of misleading the public.#MagneticMediaNews#BudgetPresentation20172018#FinanceMinisterPeterTurnquestSaysEconomyWorstThanPLPSaid Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApplast_img read more

Facebooks Zuckerberg called Pelosi after altered video but she hasnt responded

first_img Post a comment Share your voice Politics Tech Industry 0 Tags Mark Zuckerberg Facebook Would you take a call from this man? Nancy Pelosi apparently didn’t. James Martin/CNET Silence might speak louder than words for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has criticized Facebook for not removing a video that was altered to make her seem drunk. On Tuesday, The Washington Post reported that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg called Pelosi to talk about how the company deals with misinformation but that she wasn’t “eager” to hear his explanation and didn’t call back. Their staff members have been in touch, though, according to the Post, which cited unnamed people familiar with the matter. Tensions between the California Democrat and the world’s largest social network have escalated after Facebook decided to leave up the doctored Pelosi clip. Facebook doesn’t label the video itself as manipulated, but on desktop computers it shows articles from fact-checkers alongside the clip, and it reduced the video’s reach on NewsFeed. Twitter also left up the video. Google-owned YouTube took it down. One version of the video, posted by the group Politics WatchDog, got nearly 3 million views, but it’s no longer available. The group claimed last week that Facebook took it down, but the social network said it didn’t. Pelosi said in May that Facebook’s refusal to remove the altered video showed that the company’s leaders were “willing enablers” of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.Pelosi didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Facebook declined to comment or confirm the Post’s report. On Thursday, the House Intelligence Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on manipulated media and “deepfakes,” a technique that uses AI to create videos of people doing or saying something they didn’t. last_img read more

Such is his popularity that his recent appearance in another show Kitchen Champions on Colors TV made him the highest paid celebrity contestant on the show. Besides his crazy fan following, it was being said that one of the primary reasons for the fat pay cheque was apparently because Parth’s show airs on a rival channel and hence had been paid a huge amount to be on the show.Although loved by millions, the hunk was bashed left, right and centre by fans when his kissing scene with Pooja Banerjee on a show went viral last month. Parth and Pooja, who play siblings – Anurag and Nivedita – on Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2, shared a liplock in Ekta Kapoor’s web series Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain 2.As soon as the video was uploaded online, netizens were left angered as they found the on-screen brother-sister duo kissing in another show extremely odd. SportsBetting Venture Action Network Raises 175 Million From ExUFC Owners Chernin Group

first_img Popular on Variety All bets are on for the Action Network, the sports-wagering content and analytics roll-up formed by Peter Chernin’s Chernin Group. The company closed $17.5 million in Series B funding led by Fertitta Capital, the investment firm of former UFC owners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta. The Chernin Group, which created the Action Network in October 2017 and furnished seed capital, also re-invested in the company. With the new funding, Chernin Group remains the largest shareholder in Action Network but is not the majority owner. Also participating in the Action Network’s funding round were the Chicago Cubs, owned by the Ricketts family; David Blitzer of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, which owns stakes in the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils; esports investor BitKraft Esports Ventures; 6721 Capital, founded by sports marketing exec Casey Wasserman and Code Advisors; and SoFi CEO Anthony Noto (formerly Twitter’s COO). The Action Network’s backers see huge potential growth for the sports-wagering content biz, after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a 1992 law that had banned sports gambling nationwide. Sports betting is now legal in eight states and more than a dozen other states are considering legislation to legalize it.The company provides sports-gambling news, how-to articles, and analysis, as well as real-time odds and the ability to track bets via its website and app.“We see an incredible opportunity as we focus on securing the necessary approvals in regulated U.S. sports betting jurisdictions as well as those around the world,” Action Network CEO Patrick Keane said in a statement. The company last fall hired Keane, who was formerly CBS Interactive’s chief marketing officer and CEO of Associated Content, as well as a former board member of Bleacher Report. He was an original seed-stage investor in the Action Network. With the funding round, Mike Kerns, president of Chernin Digital, was named the chairman of Action Network. Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Fertitta Capital, is joining as a director.“We are thrilled to welcome Fertitta Capital, and this exceptional group of sports, media and technology investors into the fold, as we build the next phase of the Action Network,” Kerns said in announcing the funding. He said the investment “will help us expand our audience reach and depth of product offerings for years to come.”The Action Network launched in January 2018, after Chernin Group merged three companies it had acquired: Mark Cuban-backed FantasyLabs, Sports Insights, and SportsAction. In addition to Keane, the company’s hires include Darren Rovell, former ESPN sports business writer; Rob Perez (aka “WorldWideWob”), former host of co-branded ESPN/Cycle Media production “Buckets”; and Jason Sobel, formerly a writer with ESPN and Golf Channel.center_img ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses. Research team claims to have directly sampled electricfield vacuum fluctuations

first_img © 2015 Phys.org Scientists ‘squeeze’ light one particle at a time Theoretical physicists believe that empty space is not empty at all, instead it is filled with quantum particles that pop in and out of existence creating what are known as electric-field vacuum fluctuations. Prior research has led to efforts that have measured such fluctuations indirectly, but no one, until now, has claimed to be able to measure them directly. The experiment conducted by the team in Germany involved using a long pulse of light to study a shorter pulse of light by firing both through a crystal at the same time. The long pulse had a horizontal polarization while the shorter pulse had a vertical polarization. In such an arrangement, properties of the crystal are dependent on the electric field that exists inside of it, which in turn causes a change in the polarization of the beams that are fired into it and then emerge on the other side. The researchers adjusted the timing of the light pulses to map out fluctuations in the electric field. To offset vacuum fluctuations related to their own existence, they put in just the probe pulse—nothing else. When repeated many times, the researchers found the polarization varied slightly, which the researchers attributed to vacuum fluctuations. To be able to actually see what was going on, the team varied the width and duration of the pulses but not the number of photons in a given beam. They noted that the shot noise should have stayed constant as the pulse grew in size, but it did not, which the team claims was due to electric-field vacuum fluctuations. Not everyone is convinced—many in the field on reading the paper by the team were quick to point out that variations in the pulse could just as easily have come from something else. Clearly more work will have to be done before the claims made by the team are accepted by the physics community. The positive (red) and negative (blue) regions are randomly distributed in space and they change constantly at high speed – similar to black-and-white noise on a TV screen with no signal input. The content is provided for information purposes only. More information: “Direct Sampling of Electric-Field Vacuum Fluctuations.” Science. DOI: 10.1126/science.aac9788ABSTRACTThe ground state of quantum systems is characterized by zero-point motion. Those vacuum fluctuations are generally deemed an elusive phenomenon that manifests itself only indirectly. Here, we report direct detection of the vacuum fluctuations of electromagnetic radiation in free space. The ground-state electric field variance is found to be inversely proportional to the four-dimensional space-time volume sampled electro-optically with tightly focused few-femtosecond laser pulses. Sub-cycle temporal readout and nonlinear coupling far from resonance provide signals from purely virtual photons without amplification. Our findings enable an extreme time-domain approach to quantum physics with nondestructive access to the quantum state of light. Operating at multi-terahertz frequencies, such techniques might also allow time-resolved studies of intrinsic fluctuations of elementary excitations in condensed matter.Press release (Phys.org)—A team of researchers working at the University of Konstanz, in Germany is claiming to have directly sampled electric-field vacuum fluctuations, which would be the first ever made. In their paper published in the journal Science, the team describes an experiment they carried out and a part of it which they claim indicates that they have measured vacuum fluctuations directly for the first time.last_img read more

No Money No Problem 17 Free Ways to Boost Your Websites SEO

first_img 6 min read Free Webinar | Sept 5: Tips and Tools for Making Progress Toward Important Goals Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. May 2, 2016 SEO is a popular online marketing strategy, and therefore, competitive, but I’m consistently amazed at how many business owners and marketers opt not to engage in an SEO strategy because of its perceived limitations or drawbacks.Related: Top 7 Things You Don’t Know About SEOOne of the biggest misperceptions is that SEO is expensive, and it’s driven by the fact that some agencies have higher-level packages that cost tens of thousands of dollars per month.Yes, SEO can be expensive for hyper-competitive, national-scale businesses, but that doesn’t mean it’s unaffordable for the average business owner. In fact, there are dozens of simple strategies you can execute yourself, for free, to better optimize your site for search engines. These are just some of the major ones:1. Find better keywords. Optimize for keywords that are closer to your niche and have fewer competitors. Google Trends and Google’s Keyword Tool in AdWords are free tools that should give you all the data you need. For help, see this article.2. Delete duplicate content.Google Search Console will display any instances of duplicate content it finds on your site. Usually, these are the result of canonicity errors (not plagiarism), but you still need to correct this to keep your site in good standing.3. Fix 404 errors. These errors are like dead ends, and nobody likes dead ends. Again, refer to Google Search Console for help, and set up 301 redirects where necessary to close the gaps here.4. Write a unique title tag for every page. Every page should have a title tag, of under 70 characters, that describes the page, features the desired keyword and is unique from every other title tag on your website. For a more comprehensive guide on on-site optimization, see this article.Related: 5 SEO Mistakes That Are Costing Your Business Money5. Write a compelling meta description for every page. Every page should also have a meta description, under 160 characters, that more elaborately describes the page. The meta description probably doesn’t play much of a role in your actual page rankings, but it certainly affects click-through rates. There’s evidence that click-through rates affect rankings, though, so ensure that your meta descriptions are unique, concise and compelling.6. Clean up your URL structure. Your URLs should have a breadcrumbs trail and feature readable indicators of the content on the page, such as the page title. Avoid using numbers or random strings of text in your URLs.7. Update your blog often. More content, as long as it’s valuable to readers, is never a bad thing. Google recently released an algorithm update that seems to favor fresh content, so keeping your blog updated is more beneficial than ever before.8. Include H1, H2, H3, etc. headers in your content. Your content should be logically divided into subsections, with headlines and sub-heads. These need to be marked with html tags (H1, H2, H3, etc.) to help Google process and understand the intent and organization of your content.9. Add internal links. Linking together the relevant pages of your site is good for user experience, and helps Google better understand relationships between pages on your site. If your site is on WordPress, there are plugins that can automatically help, such as SEO Auto links.10. Optimize your images. Your images should be optimized for SEO too, and that task is relatively simple — title them appropriately, add descriptive alt tags and keep them in the proper format.11. Reference authoritative outside sources. Google pays attention to what you link to in an article. Citing authoritative sources to back up your claims will make your content more credible and trustworthy to Google as well as to your readers.12. Include social media integrations. Every article on your site should be accompanied by social share icons; social shares serve as indirect ranking signals, giving you the opportunity to earn more inbound links, which pass authority back to your site.13. Optimize your website loading speed. This can be as simple or as complicated as you make it; there are several ways to make a site faster, such as reducing image sizes, adding a caching plugin, switching hosting providers and deleting unnecessary plugins.14. Optimize for mobile devices. The majority of Google search now occurs on mobile devices, so if your site doesn’t display attractively for mobile users, you could be missing out on a huge chunk of traffic. Also, Google will not display your website prominently in mobile search results if your website isn’t mobile-optimized.15. Earn some links. As a consistent strategy, link-building demands heavy investment, but if you’re just getting started, you can earn some links by: 1) getting active enough in your community to earn media coverage; 2) publishing an opinion about a controversial topic you’re qualified to write about; or 3) reaching out to a publication in your industry to secure a guest posting opportunity. These days, there are really only three viable strategies for link building; this article covers them.16. Remove bad links. Use Google Search Console to download a list of links to your website. Then, evaluate your link profile and identify “bad” links from low-authority sources. Remove them manually or through an email request to the webmaster.17. Syndicate your content. You’re writing lots of great content, but what are you doing with it? Take a moment to syndicate your content through social media channels, which increases the likelihood that it will earn rank-boosting links to your site. These tactics alone won’t guarantee you a top ranking for a competitive keyword, nor are they suitable to manage a campaign in the long term, but they will give you a strong boost and a good foundation to build an ongoing strategy. Building a full campaign from scratch takes time, effort and patience — and you’ll probably run into hurdles.Related: 7 Simple Changes to Make Your Website More Visible in Search EnginesIn addition, money is the substitute to addressing these problems — it spares you the time and effort of doing the work yourself, and connects you with experts right away. But even then, you’ll be paying for a return. Remember: This isn’t an expense, it’s an investment.
