Ambusley has high praises for MBU’s ‘Black Jesus’

first_imgMontego Bay United FC winning captain Dwayne Ambusley said he strongly believed that the team’s ‘Black Jesus’ would be the saviour in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) final a week ago.The man Ambusley referred to as ‘Jesus’, Dino Williams, came off the bench in the 69th minute, and with the game tied at 1-1, scored the winning goal at the 80th minute against Portmore United at the Montego Bay Complex in Catherine Hall.”I refer to him (Williams) as Jesus because he has been our saviour. He always saves us,” Ambusley told The Gleaner at the Professional Football Association of Jamaica (PFAJ)/RSPL presentation ceremony at the Courtleigh Auditorium last Thursday evening.Williams was in doubt for the final due to a leg injury. And, with the competition’s top marksman, Owayne Gordon, leaving on loan to the United States days leading up to the final, a saviour was needed.”He was touch and go for the final,” Ambusley disclosed. “I was the one who requested the change as I wanted him into the game from early,” the captain stated. After the game, Ambusley naturally was happy.IMMENSE JOY”The joy is like none other, better than the first time we won two years ago,” Ambusley pointed out. “We had not beaten Portmore in three previous games, so this one is sweeter.”Ambusley also said that the team was not distracted by the off-the-field issues raised by his chairman, Orville Powell, concerning the playing of the game.”The team was always focused on the game. We were not concerned about other things,” reasoned the 35-year-old midfielder, who joined Montego Bay United, then Seba United, some six years ago from Montpelier FC.”I’ve always dreamt of playing in the Premier League locally, so I went to Seba. And now, we have won two national titles to add to the other two won at Seba,” he said.Ambusley was a member of the Rusea’s High School team that won the Ben Francis knockout trophy in 1996.- M.
